Results from my questionnaire

From my questionnaire I asked 10 people the same questions, my first question was; are you male or female? I gathered 6 people that were male and 4 that were female. I then asked how old the people where so I knew the age audience that will answer my questionnaire to help me understand their views. I asked different age ranges such as 13 - 16, 17- 20, 21 - 24 and then 25+. I had a wide audience with three people in the age range of 13 - 16 five people in the 17 - 20 and two people in the 21 - 24 age range and none in the 25+. I then asked the next question which was what is your favourite genre of music? The genres my audience could have chosen from are; Pop, Rock, Punk, Indie/Alternative and R&B or none of the above. Many people had a wide variety of genres and many had more than one favourite however I insisted that they only chose one genre. Three people picked Pop, one picked Rock, noone picked Punk, four people picked Indie/Alternative and three people picked R&B. I then asked what name they think think was their favourite for a magazine, there was five options to pick from, these were I A N (Indie/Alternative News), Pulse, AIB ( Alternative/Indie Broadcasts), Bass, T T B (To The Beat). When I asked this question many of the people suggested I A N because it stood out and was unique and also represented the genre I wanted to base my magazine on. Eight people suggested I A N and two people suggested Pulse, however from this research I chose to go with I A N.

Evaluation Criteria

Evaluation Criteria I think that the magazine cover and contents page is suitable for my target audience. My main target audience is pupils aged 14 – 18 and my secondary target audience is the parents of the pupils. I think that the cover and contents page suits the audience because it has formal writing and a picture of a pupil on the front and contents page which keeps the customers attracted to the magazine. When I was editing my images I used “fireworks” to recolor the background of my image to blend into the colour of my front cover using the colour tool. I also used the shape tool to create shapes to design my contents page and to make the headline stand out. I used a formal way of attracting the customer by using a strict colour scheme and using an eye catching images on my front cover and contents page. I directly composed the reader to get their attention easier and I used an interesting masthead which would attract the readers. I changed the layout of my front cover because I found it easier to layout the picture and the headline in a different way than I had planned which in all changed the look of my magazine and made it more attractive. My magazine was written in bullet points on the contents page which showed the contents of the magazine in written English but not full sentences.

Name for school magazine

The name i have chosen for my school magazine is famous facts about your school also known as ffays. i feel this is a good name to use as the reader will understand what the magazine will contain and will attract peoples attention because they will known what is inside it, which will be famous facts about biddulph high school.

Semiotics - blog task number four

Semiotics are a way to express feelings in a text or in an image, Magazine titles also have connotations. The title of the magazine should make sense to the aim of the publication. It should make sense to the audience but also give them an idea of the magazine’s aspirations so therefore the title of the magazine must be perfect for the type of information that you are trying to get across.

School weekly – weekly information about the school that nobody knew

School monthly- monthly information about the school that nobody knew

24/7 school news – information about the school 24/7

Semiotics - blog task number three

Semiotics are a way of understanding the literal and the possible meanings of images and words which directly telling the reader, e.g. Heat magazine use the word heat to represent how hot the news is because it is brand new and up-to-date.

I will use close up pictures to grab the reader’s attention and make it so it’s a denotation where the reader knows what he is seeing and can explain it by just using what he sees, I will also make it so the images I use will be of people who are staring at them so it makes it look serious and secure.

Genre conventions - task number two

Genre conventions

A genre convention is a typical or standard trope of plot, character, setting, icon, theme, or effect in a genre story. For instance, in a Western it is conventional to have the heroes wear white hats and the villains wear black hats. This is more commonly known as an icon convention.

There are many sub-genres and conventions, some of these inside the school magazine include relationships, fashion and a lot more language is directly aimed towards you, e.g. 1 week to change YOUR grades. Layouts in news magazines are formal, symmetrical and uncluttered – indicates that the audience of intelligent and classy.

These sub-genres and conventions will influence my school magazine design because I will provide a few of them inside my magazine such as using formal text and formal way of presenting my magazine to gather peoples attention of the intelligent kind.

Blog task number one

Blog task number 1

My primary audience for my magazine is students in Biddulph high school that are ages 13-18, they will have basic knowledge about the school but will not know everything and my magazine will tell them about what happens in school that they did not know.

Also the student’s parents will be the secondary audience and will receive this magazine and it will teach them more information about the school and what the school has achieved each term as I would be producing one each term. My magazine will go to all the students no matter what gender and no matter what type of education they are doing or how much salary rates of there parents everyone will receive a magazine. All of my audience all live in a market town and will have there own likes and dislikes, but my magazine will deliver information about the school and will please all students as they will learn something new every time they get a new magazine. My print product will give pleasure to the audience because it will have news about the stuff that most interests them greatly.
